With a background in the Creative Arts, I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and a Master of Social Work. My unique blend of artistic training and clinical expertise allows me to approach therapy from an expressive and creative perspective.
I specialize in using Sand Tray Therapy, Psychodrama, and Play Therapy to facilitate healing. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a highly researched, effective, and gentle therapy for trauma resolution, which I have found to be highly successful with both children and adults. EMDR allows individuals to process trauma safely and effectively, offering profound healing for those struggling with past wounds.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of facilitating special artist presentations and group work with children, utilizing theatrical interventions to help them navigate conflict resolution, build self-esteem, and practice assertive, non-violent communication.
My career has been shaped by invaluable experience in NYC, where I spent over a decade as a student working with renowned art therapy field pioneer Judith Gerberg (MA, LMHC) at Gerberg & Co., a career and life specialist organization. Later I gained experience utilizing creative expressive therapies to treat children in foster care and designed a creative arts healing group for children who are victims of domestic violence, alongside providing individual and family therapy to support their healing.
My post-graduate training continues to focus on using the expressive arts to deepen understanding and facilitate therapeutic healing. I aim to be a reflective mirror for my clients, offering insights and support that encourage their personal growth. Whether gently guiding or offering a louder, more assertive echo, I encourage clients to recognize their uniqueness and strengths, essential for their emotional well-being.
I work with both adults and children in a specialized playroom, offering Registered Play Therapy for children and supporting teens and young adults with issues of identity and self-worth. I also work with families when appropriate, helping them strengthen connections and improve communication.
Together with my husband, I am proud to say that we raised two thriving young adult men. I consider it a privilege to support my clients in accessing their inner wisdom and strengths, guiding them from where they are to where they want to be in their lives. Additionally, I offer consultation on best practices to raise thriving, self-confident children prepared for the challenges of the real world. I am also pleased to offer services in Spanish.
I have been married for over 25 years and successfully run alongside my husband Wayne Farnes, Reflections Creative Therapies Group in West Boynton and Wellington.
