Expressive Arts Therapies at Reflections
Expressive Arts Therapies allows the client to explore their unconscious states through creative flow in various forms of art. The client may choose to use writing, dance, movement, painting, music, and/or drama to explore their unconscious states. This form of therapy relies on imaginative power to create connection and new experiences, which can lead to insight and direction. A client does not need to have artistic training or ability to benefit from Expressive Arts Therapy.
Sand Tray Therapy
Sand Tray Therapy works by allowing a child to create their ‘world’ using toys and colored sand. The ‘world’ they create reflects their own current life, and also gives them an opportunity to express their inner conflicts by describing their creations. Using this form of therapy, together we are more able to help the child remove obstacles and connect them to their true inner being, which eventually leads to acceptance and confidence within themselves.
Play Therapy
Play is a child’s ‘talk therapy’ in a very non- directed approach. Children are afforded the respect and trusting environment to gain capacities and practice working within limits through play.
In the playroom, a child is given the responsibility for their own feelings and what they can do with them. The child is then able to take what they’ve learned and applied it in their own lives appropriately.
Play therapy is designed to help children express their feelings in appropriate ways to meet their needs better, develop their problem-solving skills, increase self-confidence, and ultimately understand their own feelings.
Psychodrama Therapy
Psychodrama Therapy aims to help the individual explore their internal conflicts in a safe and productive environment. Through dramatic play, clients will usually play out scenarios that explain their current life events, fantasies, dreams and mental states. These scenarios can explain a lot about a person’s emotional truth, and allow the therapist to facilitate healing through effective processing skills.
Psychodrama challenges the client and can even encourage them by taking on other roles within their scenes to gain new perspectives and solutions. Psychodrama is very effective with group settings as well.
