    About Me

Hello, I’m Deborah Mouw, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I am a trauma-informed therapist who is deeply committed to helping adults explore and heal the patterns, experiences, and internal barriers that may be keeping them stuck. My work is rooted in the belief that healing begins within. Much like the ocean, our inner world can hold both turbulence and calm. Therapy offers a space to gently tend to those inner waters- slowing down, listening more deeply, and allowing clarity, steadiness, and self-trust to emerge. Meaningful change happens when you feel safe, supported and truly seen.

I work exclusively with adults in individual therapy who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use and recovery, eating disorders, relational wounds, shame, and life transitions. I draw from both traditional talk therapy and experiential, somatic, and creative approaches, tailoring our work to what best supports you. Healing is not linear, and growth can be uncomfortable at times-but it is always worth the effort. If you are ready to begin (or continue) making intentional changes in your life, I would be honored to walk alongside you in a safe, compassionate, and judgment-free space.

What Led Me to Become a Therapist

I have always felt called to work with people. Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years as a teacher specializing in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) within the public school system. My own personal challenges and life experiences eventually led me toward the field of mental health, where I could support others in a more direct and meaningful way.

I began my clinical journey working in addictions treatment and later completed my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. What I value most about being a therapist is the collaborative process-helping clients uncover insight, develop awareness, and experience those powerful “light-bulb moments” that bring clarity and forward movement. Once perspective shifts, patterns become visible, and meaningful change becomes possible. Walking alongside clients as they gain that clarity is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.

What I Want for You in Therapy

I believe the therapeutic relationship is sacred, and that finding the right fit truly matters. It takes courage to seek support, and I meet that courage with presence, respect, and care. My goal is for you to feel safe enough to be honest, curious, and vulnerable-knowing I will sit with you in the hard places.

I approach therapy from a holistic, creative, and trauma-informed lens, helping you explore emotional, behavioral, and relational patterns while gently addressing barriers such as shame, past trauma, and internalized negative beliefs. I genuinely want you to live a life that feels aligned, empowered, and authentic. We do this work together, at your pace, with compassion and intention.

    Professional Background

I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I am also a Certified Addictions Professional (CAP), with additional training in trauma-informed and experiential approaches.

I earned a Master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education from Nova University and a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Florida Atlantic University-backgrounds that continue to inform my creative, flexible, and relational therapeutic style.

Since 2014, I have worked in a range of clinical settings, including detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, and private practice. My experience includes working with substance use disorders, eating disorders, trauma, process addictions, and co-occurring mental health concerns. I also engage in ongoing clinical training and participate in a psychodrama group focused on experiential and depth-oriented therapy.
