Heather Scholnicoff, LMHC
Hello, I’m Heather, a licensed mental health clinician dedicated to assisting you in discovering solutions and achieving peace of mind. My approach involves employing a range of modalities and interventions tailored to your individual needs. I frequently utilize mindfulness, ACT, narrative therapy, and CBT to empower my clients. Through the integration of various skills, I guide individuals in navigating their daily lives and deriving meaning from their experiences.
In my practice, I incorporate spirituality (distinct from religion) to foster a deeper connection and uncover one’s authentic self. Recognizing the therapeutic influence of nature, I encourage clients to engage with outdoor spaces for emotional processing, regulation, and relaxation, if they express interest. Over the course of my career, I’ve successfully assisted clients in addressing challenges related to addiction, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, and grief.
What Led Me To Becoming A Therapist
Becoming a therapist is my true calling! Initially, my life was headed in a completely different direction. I truly believe that the universe stepped in and spun me around; we had a bit of a fight due to my resistance. Upon surrendering, I found myself on a new path. I’ve encountered significant challenges, with addiction and self-doubt stemming from past trauma which took me to dark places. Through these experiences, I’ve gained valuable insights. Combining these perspectives with my formal training has enabled me to establish empathetic connections with my clients, enhancing their overall therapeutic experience. My unwavering belief is that one cannot escape or bury their past; instead, confronting it leads to self-discovery and solutions. This conviction propels me forward on my journey, inspiring me to become a therapist so that I can assist others in facing their own challenges
What I want for you during our sessions
My hope is for you to foster understanding in your life, cultivate self-love and acceptance, and recognize that pain and challenges, far from being negative, serve as catalysts for transformation. These fundamental skills empower us to navigate life’s challenges, fostering strength and resilience in the face of adversity. I encourage you to evolve into the person you envision.
My education
I hold a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from South University, reflecting my passion for continuous learning. I make it a point to acquire new knowledge daily, engaging in ongoing courses and seeking information to enhance my understanding of how to best support my clients. Beyond my professional pursuits, I also have a keen interest in diverse subjects such as animals, quantum physics, philosophy, spirituality, religion, and theology.
My clinical experience and training began in the realm of addiction and substance abuse. Recognizing that addiction seldom exists in isolation, I have worked with clients facing a spectrum of mental health symptoms. During my tenure in treatment facilities, I have addressed various mental health diagnoses, with trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief being the most prevalent. I’ve had the privilege of sitting with individuals in their most critical moments, witnessing both the depths of crisis and the profound transformations they undergo in their lives.
I leave you with this from Carl Jung,
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside awakes.”
