Kalie May, LMHC, EDMR Certified

Hi, I am Kalie May. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and EMDR Certified. I specialize in working with children and adolescents. I graduated from Lynn University with a Masters of Science and am currently pursing a Qualified Supervisor credential. I have extensive training in trauma informed approaches and have completed training in Neuro Affective Relational Model. I have learned how to incorporate EMDR into play therapy sessions and believe that emotional safety is vital in processing trauma. I have experience in community mental health, non profit organizations and substance abuse treatment. I work along side clients and their families to empower individuals and support clients in identifying and working toward their goals.
What Led Me To Becoming A Therapist
From a young age, my passion was to support others.
Adolescence and young adulthood was an especially trying time in my life and I did not have the tools to be able to communicate my feelings or ask for help. I began to work with a therapist who supported me in connecting with myself and creating a life that was meaningful to me. This therapist recognized my ability to help others and encouraged me to pursue this career path. I have been able to support others as my therapist was able to support me.
What I want for you during our sessions
I believe in the power of connection and building a compassionate and nonjudgmental environment for growth to occur. I believe that each individual has the capacity to heal past wounds and cultivate the life that they want for themselves. I am committed to working alongside you to support you in this process.
My education
I graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelors in Psychology and hold a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and EMDR Certified Clinician. I am passionate about EMDR for all ages and I believe in it’s efficacy for reworking neural pathways and processing challenging memories and beliefs. I started out my clinical journey in working with 0-6 population with a heavy focus on involving families and educators in the treatment process. I continued this work in elementary schools as there has been a need for mental health support within the school system. I have also worked in the substance abuse field in both the therapist and clinical director role. I also have a passion for supporting and supervising clinicians and building clinical programs.
