Kimberly McCray, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Hello! I am Kimberly McCray. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor serving the state of Florida. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and parents. I graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Master’s of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Mental Health. Prior to joining Reflections Creative Therapies Group, I provided mental health support to students across Palm Beach County within the school settings. Additionally, I have worked with adolescents and adults, providing therapy to those grappling with eating disorders. I possess extensive experience offering counseling services to various individuals, focusing particularly on children and adolescents dealing with a range of mental health challenges.
I work from a collaborative, strength-based approach, assisting and supporting clients to be the author of their own lives. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I value the importance of building rapport with individuals and supporting their families. I enjoy assisting families move towards healthier relationships. In my experience, I have found the Person-Centered Therapy modality to be a profoundly impactful approach, centered on creating a therapeutic space that fosters self-exploration and personal growth. As a therapist employing this modality, my role is that of a compassionate facilitator, aiming to create a safe and empathetic environment for clients. In the person-centered approach, I prioritize active listening without judgment. This involves not only hearing the words spoken by the client but also tuning into the emotions, values, and experiences that underlie their words.
What Led Me to Becoming a Therapist:
My journey toward becoming a therapist was shaped by navigating my own challenges with chronic medical illness, understanding the complexities of intricate family dynamics, and embracing the belief that everyone deserves a supportive ally. These personal struggles ignited my passion to help others facing similar adversities, inspiring me to pursue a path dedicated to providing understanding, support, and guidance to those in need. Additionally, my passion for supporting individual caregivers reflects a commitment to providing holistic care that extends beyond traditional therapeutic boundaries. I do not believe an individual should identify with their disorder. It is only one aspect of who they are among many other important parts.
What I want for you during our sessions:
During the session, I aim to create a positive and supportive environment for individuals to feel heard, understood, and supported. I hope to create a space where individuals can openly explore their thoughts and emotions, gain valuable insights, and work toward achieving their goals in a way that feels comfortable and empowering to them. By genuinely engaging with clients in this way, I seek to provide an atmosphere of acceptance and validation, where individuals feel genuinely understood.
Educational Background:
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of South Florida (USF) and completed my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Life Coach. Currently, I am undergoing training to become a Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator and a Registered Play Therapist.
