Melanie Jones, RMHCI

Hi, I’m Melanie Jones, a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern at Reflections Creative Therapies. As a dedicated children’s mental health counselor, I believe every child has a unique story to tell, and I am here to help them find their voice. With extensive training in play therapy, child-parent psychotherapy, and trauma counseling, I create a warm and nurturing environment where children can explore their feelings, express themselves, and heal through the power of play, art, and conversation.
In my practice, I integrate various therapeutic techniques that celebrate the natural ways children communicate. Through imaginative play, creative art, and heartfelt dialogue, I guide children in navigating their emotions, building resilience, and fostering healthy relationships. My approach is rooted in understanding the profound impact that early experiences have on a child’s development, and I work collaboratively with both children and parents to cultivate a supportive and trusting therapeutic alliance.
Whether your child is facing challenges related to anxiety, trauma, or adjustment, I am committed to providing a safe space where they can discover their strengths and learn coping strategies.
Why I Became a Therapist
My journey toward becoming a therapist was deeply influenced by my own childhood experiences and the adversity I faced growing up. From an early age, I encountered challenges that shaped how I viewed the world and others. These experiences ignited a passion within me to help others who were struggling, just as I had.
As an adult, my own experiences in therapy became a pivotal part of my healing journey. I had the privilege of working with therapists who guided me through difficult, often painful moments, offering me the support and tools I needed to heal and grow. These transformative experiences deepened my understanding of the therapeutic process and motivated me to pursue a career where I could offer the same care and guidance to others.
Becoming a therapist felt like a natural calling. I am committed to helping individuals navigate their own challenges, just as I once did, and to support them in creating meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
What I want for you during our sessions
I am dedicated to helping both children and parents experience healing and transformation in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. My approach is rooted in understanding, collaboration, and inspiration, offering you a safe space where you and your child can feel heard and understood. Through our sessions, we’ll work together to explore your child’s emotional world, build a deeper connection, and navigate any challenges you may be facing as a parent. As we foster trust and clarity, I’ll guide you in gaining insights, developing effective strategies, and creating positive changes for both you and your child’s well-being.
My education
I hold a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Florida Atlantic University and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University. Given the ever-evolving nature of the field, I am deeply committed to ongoing education and continuously enhancing my skills as a counselor. I have received extensive training in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Child-Parent Psychotherapy. I am also currently pursuing certification in psychodrama to further broaden my therapeutic approach.
