Shlomit Karasik, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker I love working with children, adolescents, and families in therapy who have ongoing challenges with depression and anxiety. My goal is to help you stop dwelling on negative thoughts and start supporting you to change your life around. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. My approach is strength based and empowering so that each client can work on achieving their personal goals.
I aim for therapy to be a collaborative approach between therapist and client. An individualized treatment plan is created for each client with specific goals.
I apply a variety of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, talk therapy, narrative therapy and traditional talk therapy.
What Led Me To Becoming A Therapist
I have always felt that helping people is my calling. My grandmother used to work in a substance abuse treatment center, and I loved going with her to the office as a child. Although she did not work with clients, she was always kind to those she would run into or those she spoke to over the phone. Being in that environment inspired me to find a meaningful profession. This led me to go into the Social Work Field.
I strongly believe in the power of connecting with a therapist, who can help you understand what you are going through and guide you to see things through different lenses. Transformation and healing is a process and a commitment but it is very powerful and effective.
What To Expect During Our Sessions
Our sessions will provide you with the space to express your thoughts and feelings. In feeling safe and comfortable, you will be able to gain clarity and feel what you need to feel. It is important to me to ensure that the process is collaborative and focus on setting goals and working on reaching them together. There is not a “one size fits all” approach to Therapy. My goal is to help you stop dwelling on negative thoughts and start supporting you to change your life around.
My Professional Background
I received my Bachelors of Social Work, Masters of Social Work, and Education Specialist Degrees at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and have worked in various clinical settings for the past 17 years . I started my career working at JAFCO, a non profit agency where I worked with children and families in the foster care system as a case worker and subsequently as a Therapist for Group Home residents within the same organization . I have also worked as a Behavioral Therapist at Positive Behavioral Support with children diagnosed with Autism, utilizing ABA Therapy (Applied Behavioral Analysis). I worked as a Director of Community Outreach for several years at another non profit, social service agency (JFS). There, I oversaw and supervised an outreach department consisting of a community program that provided social work services. I also oversaw and created specialized programming such as support groups and educational workshops to various locations that the agency partnered with. Within that role, I also supervised staff within a Special Needs and Domestic Violence Department . These programs also provided social services as well as groups and workshops as needed to those specific populations. I work with FAU CARD at Florida Atlantic University where I facilitate adult social skills groups for participants who have special needs. I am currently providing psychotherapy to children and their families at Reflections Creative Therapies where I am able to utilize various creative interventions such as sand tray, and play therapy in sessions.
