Gabrielle Garvey, MS Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Welcome. My name is Gabrielle Garvey, and I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. My work is grounded in the power of attunement and the belief that healing occurs when individuals feel safe enough to express the parts of themselves that have previously felt too vulnerable to share. My goal is to help clients communicate their internal experiences in ways that feel secure, supported, and authentic, allowing for meaningful and lasting healing.
I take an integrative approach to care, incorporating expressive therapies such as play therapy and sand tray, mindfulness-based practices, somatic interventions, and traditional talk therapy techniques. As I believe trauma is often stored in the body, I intentionally integrate somatic approaches to help clients gently ground themselves in the present moment, fostering a sense of safety, regulation, and internal peace.
What led me to Becoming a Therapist
My journey toward becoming a therapist was shaped by my own adverse experiences, empathy, and a deep curiosity about the human mind. I became particularly interested in how the brain processes information, the influence of the unconscious and subconscious, and the ways individuals can grow through life’s challenges.
Through witnessing the transformative potential of the therapeutic relationship, I felt a strong calling to work specifically with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am passionate about helping clients develop emotional awareness, effective communication skills, and emotional regulation. When cultivated within a strong therapeutic relationship, emotional regulation during childhood and adolescence can be a powerful protective factor—supporting substance use prevention, eating disorder prevention, healthier relationships, and the development of resilient, emotionally grounded adults.
What I Want for you During our Sessions
During our work together, my greatest hope is that you feel safe enough to fully be yourself—to breathe, to pause, and to exist without fear of judgment, criticism, or shame. I strive to create a collaborative therapeutic space where you feel empowered, heard, and actively involved in your treatment.
My intention is to foster an environment that supports growth, healing, insight, and exploration. My goal for you is to leave each session feeling supported and equipped with practical tools to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and self-awareness.
My Education
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University and hold a master’s degree in Counselor Education with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Florida International University. I have worked with children and adolescents since my teenage years in roles from camp/aftercare counselor to pre-school teacher, from a temple youth group president to nanny. I have consistently dedicated my professional work to supporting and advocating for the next generation, making a positive difference in their lives.
I am trained in expressive art modalities, including play therapy and sand tray therapy, as well as somatic approaches and traditional talk therapy interventions. I remain committed to ongoing professional growth through continued education, training, consultation, and supervision.
My clinical experience includes completing my graduate internship at Reflections Creative Therapies Group, where I had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, families, and groups. During my practicum, I worked at Westcare – The Village South, gaining experience supporting adolescents with substance use and co-occurring disorders through court-appointed, in-home psychotherapy.
If your world feels overwhelming right now, pause. Take a deep breath in… hold… and gently release. You have found a space where you can feel safe, seen, and heard. Welcome to your journey back to yourself.
