Joshua Bennett, M.A, LMHC, EMDR Trained, Registered Play Therapist Candidate
Hi there! My name is Joshua Bennett and I am a LMHC who is deeply passionate about supporting children, teens, and families on their journey towards becoming their best and most authentic selves. My ultimate goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where individuals can explore internal challenges, build resilience, and develop adaptive solutions to their problems. I truly believe that each individual has their own intrinsic roadmap towards healing, and with the tools provided during a therapeutic relationship, all can be empowered to reach their goals.
What to expect during our sessions
When you come in for your first therapy session with me, you can expect a competent and prepared professional who will work with you to discover your unique skills, strengths and talents and discuss how we can partner together to achieve your goals. I use a combination of approaches such as play therapy, sand tray therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to target a wide range of issues.
Some of my earliest clinical experiences came from working with children and families involved in the child-welfare/dependency system. I am particularly passionate about supporting children and teens who have experienced trauma, and using evidence-based EMDR techniques to help them process distressing memories and develop healthier coping strategies. I also combine this with CBT’s structured, goal-oriented methods to address negative thought patterns, while a client-centered approach ensures therapy is a collaborative, supportive process that honors each individual’s perspective and pace.
My Professional Background
I hold a Bachelors in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My graduate experience included an internship where I learned trauma-informed practices specifically geared towards working with children, teens and adults who have experienced trauma, attachment wounds, or other adverse life experiences. It was through this experience where I acquired the clinical skills necessary to help individuals on their journey towards healing and wholeness. I am also passionate about continuing to hone my clinical skills and I am currently pursuing certification in EMDR and I am also a Registered Play Therapist Candidate.
I look forward to working with you and your family on your personalized journey towards healing and wellness!
