  • Sofia Cobos, M.S. ,Registered Marriage and Family Intern

Hi, I’m Sofia Cobos — I’m so glad you’re here! I’m a Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern, and I’m passionate about helping families, couples, and individuals build stronger, more meaningful connections.

I’m fluent in English and Spanish, and I use a systemic, strength-based approach to therapy. That means I focus on understanding how each person fits within their relationships and on recognizing the strengths that already exist within you and your connections. My goal is to help you build resilience and develop tools to support a more fulfilling and balanced life.

I truly believe that healthy relationships are at the core of our overall well-being, and that therapy can be a powerful space for growth and healing. My approach is warm, compassionate, and collaborative, and I work to create a space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported.

I’m especially mindful of cultural differences, family dynamics, and the unique demands creative professionals often face. Whether you’re navigating challenges in your relationships, adjusting to transitions, or simply wanting to grow, I’m here to help you explore what’s possible.

What Led Me to Becoming a Therapist

Through my own journey of healing, I discovered the impact of having a safe, supportive space to explore my story, beliefs, and emotions, and how transformative it can be to feel truly seen and understood. I’ve always believed that our history and context shape how we relate to ourselves and others. Over time, I’ve come to see how the strategies we use to get through difficult moments often serve us well at first, but may no longer reflect who we’re becoming.

In my work, I’ve witnessed the incredible resilience of the human spirit and our capacity to create meaningful lives, even in the face of challenge. It’s a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they explore what connection, healing, and fulfillment might look like for them and to help them identify what may be standing in the way.

My approach is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), two models that align with my belief in compassion, connection, and honoring the complexity of our inner worlds. EFT helps us understand the emotional patterns that shape our relationships, while IFS offers a gentle way to explore the inner parts of ourselves so we can move toward harmony and self-acceptance.

What I Want for You During Our Sessions

I want you to come just as you are, I’ll meet you exactly where you’re at. My hope is that you feel seen, understood, and accepted for all that you are. Your insecurities, doubts, and fears make sense in the context of your story, and together we’ll explore them with curiosity and compassion.

In our work, we’ll slow down and make space to understand what your emotions are trying to tell you and how different parts of you have learned to protect and adapt over time. As we bring awareness and care to these inner experiences, new possibilities begin to emerge allowing for deeper connection, healing, and growth.

My goal is to help you uncover what’s been getting in the way of feeling grounded and connected, and to support you in developing new perspectives and patterns that nurture the relationships you want for yourself; within yourself and with others.

    My Education

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. Throughout my training and clinical experience, I’ve had the opportunity to work with adults, teens, and couples, supporting them through a variety of life transitions and relational challenges.

Over time, I’ve deepened my practice by incorporating interventions from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), two approaches that reflect my belief in the power of emotional connection and self-understanding. I’ve completed the EFT Externship, which has further shaped my ability to help clients strengthen relationships and cultivate deeper emotional bonds.

My education and ongoing training continue to inspire my commitment to creating a therapeutic space where clients feel supported, understood, and empowered to grow in connection with themselves and others.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
